The trade war between the United States and China has been ongoing since January 2018 and appears to be no closer to an end thanks to President Donald J. Trump. The tariffs imposed by the aforementioned President have damaged both economies, and strained relations greatly.
With hope for the future, expecting a simple yet useful response SCMP asked the United States delegate “14.8% of China's goods are exported to the United States, which the U.S. then relies on. What is the United States thinking about raising tariffs on China when it relieves so heavily on the country?” The delegate of the United States immediately replied with “No comment.” A suspicious response from a country with a loudmouth for a President. When asked two other questions, one concerning the homelessness of China’s residents caused by rising tariff prices, the representative showed no remorse and continued to express their desire to not comment whatsoever. This show of selfishness is astonishing when thinking about how critical a trading partner China is to the United States. The light at the end of the tunnel is growing dimmer by the minute in terms of the trade war, every time the tariffs rise a percent, another opportunity for a peaceful resolution is shot down.
