Delegates during session 1 in G20 Committee
Financial stabilities are deeply connected through global market, integrated financial systems and international trade. This interdependence creates mutual reliance but can also lead to systematic failures and banking risks. Along with this, citizens in affected countries face unemployment, poverty, loss of household savings, and rising debt.
Governments may implement austerity measures, cut
ting basic necessities and leaving citizens without protection.
Living under a government that has no clear response to a crisis is a complete violation of human rights. A government's obligation recides in protecting its citizens, providing public services, etc. Argentinean President Fernando de la Rúa enforced the "corralito," a strict freeze on bank withdrawals and imposed a state of siege, facing a four-year recession, debt, and 15%+ unemployment.
The true purpose of a government is contradicted and innocent people suffer the consequences of economic mismanagement and institutional failures, those in charge of protecting are starving and neglecting them.
Asian countries shared the idea of globalizing Argentina's debt between nations willing to help, in an attempt of reducing the total amount. Even as a draft, this resolution has grabbed the idea of the whole committee. Living under a government that has no clear response to a crisis is a complete violation of human rights. Beyond preventing further collapse, actions considered by international community, demonstrate solidarity and empathy towards victims. As well as, preventing the spread to neighbor countries, considering the association between them all.
Nevertheless, before any resolution could be debated, G20 Vice Chair came with the news of violent mass. protests happening in Argentina.
Protestors expressed through banging pot and pans their desire for systematic change and the removal of all politicians, rather than specific policy adjustments
Countries such as Germany, Brazil, Indonesia, and the US allied and worked around a social approach rather than economical. "If we don't stabilize the region socially and we don't have some present that we can fall back upon, we cannot speak anything about economics," stated a German delegate.
Delegates expect to stabilize the region through NGOs due to the absence of the Argentinean government. Moreover, they stated that
international community should support, but avoid providing dependence.
What happens in Argentina is being closely monitored. Some delegations believe this crisis calls for solidarity and humanitarian acts, while other believe systemic vulnerability should be addressed as a priority.
Numerous proposals have emerged during the meeting,
negligence extend far beyond national borders.
However, besides focusing on dealing on the moment crisis, maybe they should find a way of prevent them from emerging in the first place.
